The ideal men's room

I thought this was great! But if men's rooms looked like this, I think some boys might have a problem actually going to the bathroom. Either that, or we'd be sitting alone at the restaurant table most of the night. :-)

Finally in the 90's...

Yes, it's true...I FINALLY have a cell phone. Can you believe the jump to light speed I just made? From the 80's to the 90's in just one day! I never thought I'd like, want or need a cell phone, but low and behold, I played with that little bugger for like FOUR STRAIGHT HOURS on Christmas! I put info. for people I haven't talked to in two years into that bad boy, for the shear fun of it! Now all I have to do is find a ring tone that doesn't make me nauseous, because the ones that came with the phone are awful! :-)

So how about you? What was you coolest gift?

Well, at least now I know...

I can't believe I never heard this until now!! One of my all-time favorite television shows, KINDRED: THE EMBRACED, (about a clan of vampires struggling to co-exist with humans and each other), was cancelled after one, knock-out season and I never understood why...until today. The hottie vampire prince Julian Luna, portrayed marvelously by actor Mark Frankel, died in a motorcycle accident that same year, making it impossible for the story to continue.

For those of you, not fortunate enough to have seen the show, here is a picture of the late, talented actor Mark.

The entire season of the Kindred is available on DVD at Amazon. There are many familiar faces and wonderful performances, in a genre one hardly ever sees done, much less done so well. I highly suggest you check it out...it's worth every penny.

Tamagachi Nightmare!

Okay, so my daughter really wants a Tamagachi for Christmas. Well, unbeknownst to me, EVERYONE wants a Tamagachi this year!! I went to four different stores yesterday, and they were all sold out! HELP!
Tamagachi, WANTED!! Dead or Alive!

Personally, I don't get the whole virtual pet craze? You have to take care of it 24/7, during school, the middle of the night, even if your sick...Geesh! And I thought puppies were bad! Here's hoping I find one before Saturday!
Wish me luck, bloggers!

Bad Sex?

Okay, I've been nattering about his since yesterday, so I had to post it here.
This link will take you to the Literary Review's Award for the WORST sex scene. Yes, I said worst...and boy do I mean it! These passages are horrendous! And people think we women romance writers are bad. Well, these offenders, most men, beat us hands down!
I especially "loved" the one about the 'Lobster'. If anyone can explain it to me, please try!!

Last Prison Break until March?

Say it isn't so!
Alas, my sources, (who have been wrong a time or two), say it's true. {{{sob, sniff}}}
But, even if they are wrong, (which wouldn't surprise me), I read they are giving P.B the kiss of death...moving it to another night and time slot.
This is a practice of the National Broadcast System I just do not understand. It has caused the demise of more decent shows than I can even begin to name...Fastlane, Arrested Development, The Kindred...to name a few. I only hope that Michael, Lincoln and the rest of the gang can tuff it out, because Prison Break is one of the best shows I've seen in...well...since Lost's debut last season. :-)
In honor of what could be the last show until March, I've posted some pics of my favorite inmate. Enjoy!

"Kiss me right here on my tattoo."

"Look at me. I want you. Only you."

Hehehe. :-)

First of all,

I'd like to thank "Anonymous" for mentioning that Hans Matheson was indeed in PBS's The Virgin Queen...just a week later and a character different than his fan site had posted. GRRR.
I caught the tail end of it though, and managed to tape his delicious mug for future drooling purposes! Thanks again "A"!! :-)

Second, in celebration of Sawyer and Kate being reunited, (hopefully!) on LOST tonight, I'm posting hottie Josh Holloway. Enjoy!

Finally!

My hubby finally read the unedited copy of my fantasy romance novel, A MAGICAL ENCOUNTER...release date 2007.
He LOVED it!! Said it was the best romance novel he's ever read. And yes, I've made him read at least five-including my all-time favorite one.

Not only did he say he couldn't put my book down, it almost made him cry. He liken's it to Lord of the Rings, because of the evil beings and elves...but with sex.
Elf sex. :-)
Is there any better kind? :-0
To celebrate my hubby's wonderful review, I've posted the ultimate hot elf, and muse for my hero, Legolas.

Enjoy!

What's up?

Okay, I'm kinda ticked off today. Last night I stayed up late to watch the Virgin Queen on PBS...and you know what? NO HANS! Not even a cameo. Can you believe it? I was royally cheesed off. So I stayed up even later watching Dr. Zhivago to get my Hans fix for the night. {{{sigh}}} he is sooooo wonderful in that movie. I adore Kiera Knightly too.
Anyhoo, if anyone stayed up late to see Hans as Robert at my behest, I apologize. But know you weren't the only one duped. And if anyone actually liked the Virgin Queen, feel free to rail on me for hating it. :-)

Until next time...

November 13, 2005...The Virgin Queen

Not me! Elizabeth I.
Masterpiece Theatre, on PBS, is airing the first of the two part series, THE VIRGIN QUEEN, tonight. Now, normally this wouldn't be Blog-worthy. But there just happens to be the cutest little "piece" on the Masterpiece show...Hans Matheson. The pictures below are from his other PBS stint, playing the lead in DR. ZHIVAGO. Mmmm Mmmm Good!
Tonight he plays the Queen's life long love interest, Robert Dudley...Earl of Leicester.
Enjoy the pic's, and the show!

November 4, 2005..."It's Friday night...

...And I have to work all weekend." Wait. That's not how the song goes. Oh well?

Today I am working on finishing my second book, THE MARQUIS AND THE MISTRESS. So far, so good. I'm on chapter nine, approximately 50,000 words in. I'm scheduled to have it completed and ready to send out by December 30th...my Grandpa's birthday. He passed away a few years ago, but continues to be my inspiration. ;-)

Anyway, tonight is Friday!! They are having a Hollywood inspired wine tasting at our local liquor store...Francis Ford Coppola, here we come! I've already bought the cheese and crackers, so all we need is a few bottles of the good stuff. I can't wait to relax with some good friends and good wine.

Oh and I'm finally getting my hair highlighted tomorrow. "Bye-bye" boring bankers wife brown! I'll post a picture on Sunday for y'all! Have a great weekend!

November 3, 2005...Well crap.

I just got a letter from a big NY publisher, requesting the book a just sold!! Kicking myself in the arse a bit for that slick move. But then again, there is no guarantee with a request. They may read it, hate it and then I've gone and wasted a year+ waiting for said rejection. This was the smart thing to do...right?

Urgh! I need some distraction. Any excuse to post this hottie tottie, (or is that a drink?)

I said it before and I'll say it again...
I love this show almost as much as I love his tattoos.

October 31, 2005...Happy Halloween!!

Happy Halloween!
Today is my favorite holiday!!!
I can't wait to fire up the fog machines, strobe light and spooky music. Too bad it's just for the tricker treaters and not for some swingin' party I'm throwing. But I'm thinking that'll have to wait until the kids are just a wee bit older. ;-)

For those of you partying down this evening, I hope everyone has a happy and safe one! And if you're staying in...don't forget my favorite felon is on for two yummy hours tonight, on Fox's Prison Break! {{{sigh}}} If you missed the pictures I posted of him last week, scroll down...it's well worth the minimal effort.

October 26, 2005...Car problems suck!

Okay, so the kids are out of school for the next two days. My mother decides this would be the perfect time for a little visit...nevermind she was just here last week. Well wouldn't you know it our van decides to squeal like a stuck pig while in first and second gear. So, I take it to the dealer, where (I'm assuming out of fear) the thing doesn't make a peep.

After an hour of waiting in the lobby, they graciously give me a rental. A friggin' Neon...did I mention I have two kids? I don't complain, but tool on home, in the tiny little sports car. After I chew out my husband, for making me go in the first place, we get a phone call...the transmission's going out. They need the van for "a few days." Now, I like to keep on the sunny side of life, so think this is the perfect out for having to visit my mom. I mention to the the service guy that I was planning to make a trip, but couldn't possibly do so with the loaner car.

He says, 'sure you can!'

So there you have it. It will be me, two whining kids in a car the size of a Hot Wheels for a three hour tour. Urgh...I hate school holidays.

Until next time...

October 23, 2005...Prison Break is back on!

Warm up those TiVo's and VCR's! The hottest felon in history is back on television. And I don't know about you, but I've been having serious withdrawl issues during its two week hiatus. But thankfully, it's coming back on tonight, followed by a double header tomorrow!
To celebrate I'm posting a couple more pictures from fox.com, for us all to sigh at.
Enjoy! ;-)

October 19, 2005...I'm going to be PUBLISHED!!!

Yes, you read right faithful bloggers...the publisher came through with an offer I couldn't refuse! Wings ePress is releasing my first novel, a Fantasy Romance entitled A MAGICAL ENCOUNTER, to be released in 2007!! Can you stand it? I know I'm freaking out. Even though the contracts are signed and mailed, it still doesn't seem real.

I think I'm most excited to see the cover. It'll be totally unreal to hold a book that has my name on, and is filled with words and characters I created. But it looks like I'll at least have to wait until 2007! :-)

Until next time...

October 18, 2005...I'm going to Jamaica mon!

I'm soooo exicted! A couple friend of ours asked us to vacation with them during Spring Break...in Jamaica!! I voted for Belize, but we decided an all inclusive resort would be the route to go. They will be celebrating their respective birthdays, and my hubby and I will be toasting fifty...err, oops...ten blissful years of marriage! Now all we have to do is find a resort!
Has anyone been there before? Know of any great resorts? Or better yet, know a really great travel agent? Hey wait, I do! I met her at the Deb Dixon workshop. Gotta go and call her up!
Until next time...

October 12,2005...Kinko's Guy story.

I know I haven't blogged in like...Forever, but don't worry faithful bloggers, I haven't passed on. Life's just been crazy lately! Getting my book ready to send to the agent was part of it, Girl Scout meetings and carpooling yet another. Good news...both are done! Phew, it was a chore though believe me.

My printer broke printing out the first two pages of my synopsis, so I had to haul both kido's into the van for the twenty minute drive to Kinko's. After three, count them, three tries, the helpful clerk gets my book printed. (And I swear they were all reading it back there!). Anyhoo, he comes out and I'm chomping at the bit to get this thing to the post office and fast. But he says, 'I have to give you credit...you did something I could never do.' With that he launches into this story about how he's an English major who's started four books, yet couldn't finish a one of them. He goes on to tell me all about paper topics he chose in college and the witty professors he had. Fifteen minutes later I realize I'll never make it to the post office and back in town in time for work. So I pay, thank him, usher the kids back into the van and plop the printed manuscript on the front seat. Yet, eventhough the book is going to be sitting in my van a day longer than it should, I smiled.

I felt lucky. I'd done something much more difficult than I gave myself credit for...I not only finished my book, but I'm working hard to ensure it see's the light of day.
And Kinko's guy...if your reading this, send me an e-mail! I'll let you know when you can finish reading my book. :-)

Until next time...

October 7, 2005...My little Peanut

Okay, get your head's out of the gutter! I'm talking about my littlest guy, Bodi. For some reason, (Um, my golf fanatic hubby-perhaps?), I found myself at work with the kids again. We decided to take loads and loads of pictures to occupy our time. Well, actually, just Bodi and I. My daughter found a more sophisticated way of biding her time. Geesh, 3rd graders. :-)

Yippee!! I love Mommy!

...............................................What? I didn't do it.

.................................................Ouch! Ice cream headache!

Go ahead, try and take my PS2
and bag of Lays away. Go on.
I dare ya. Grrrrr.

Until Next time...

October 6, 2005...To quote Napolean Dynamite..."Idiot!"

Yes, I am the 'idiot' in question. It seems I cannot send out a submission without screwing it up somehow! An agent requested to see my completed manuscript. So I wrote out my list, checked it twice...only to later discover that what I forgot to do wasn't on my list in the first place!
I wrote down, 'send self addressed postcard for delivery verification'...but I forgot to put the word STAMPED in there! Duh. Napolean, help me out..."Idiot."
What are the odds the agent will slap a stamp on that postcard for me? Slim to none? :-< Bummer.

Until next time...

October 1...Show me the way to go home...

I am sooooo bored at work. I swear, nobody works out from 8-9pm. Why am I even here?
Don't believe me you say? Fine. I'll take my picture, and you can see for yourself how bored I am.

Well, okay...I don't look THAT bored. But I just had to smile. You see, my mother ingrained it in me, and I can't help myself. Put a camera in front of me, and I'm grinnin' like goofey! And urgh, what's with the brown hair? I'm usually trailer-trash platinum blonde, and much prefer it. However, after I dyed my hair flamingo pink, my hubby made me change it to boring, bankers wife brown...yuck! But fear not faithful bloggers, the chunky highlights are on the horizon! :)

Hey Cool! I just killed a half hour! Now I can get packin' and cruise home! Sweet!

P.S. For those of you wondering about my book, A MAGICAL ENCOUNTER, we're in the same boat. The publisher said she'd check on my submission's progress, but that was three days ago. I'm slowly discovering that writing is a waiting game...too bad I have no patience! :)

Until next time...

September 29, 2005..."Man, you look just like I feel."

Hey all...I just had to post this crappy, but hilarious picture of my 3 year old son, Bodi. Obviously the combination of Lays chips, and Lego Star Wars on the PS2 was just too much for his little body to take! :)

I'll be sure to post a better one of him in his Spidey costume!
Until next time...

September 21, 2005...Road Trip!

I'm getting excited! This weekend I'm driving 5 hours to Minnesota for a writers workshop...crazy you say? How could it be! When the incomparable Debra Dixon will be giving an intensive one-day session on Goal, Motivation, and Conflict...the glue which holds any story together.
Now, it's not like I haven't read up on these, or that I don't understand them...I just want a weekend without the hubby and kids! :) Just Kidding! Can't wait to see everybody there, and to take notes till carpal tunal kicks in early arthritis! Yeehaw!

September 15, 2005...Cool Stuff!

I am soooooo excited!! No, the editor didn't call wanting to contract my book. :(
But I did find an AWESOME site chock full o' web-graphics...for free! I just finished renovating my web-site. Check it out: www.meaganhatfield.com It looks great! At least I think so. Tell me what you think!

Other cool stuff: I just took a writing sex scenes class from paranormal romance author Gena Showalter...and is she a super cool chick or what? Her blog is the bomb! You must check it out: www.genashowalter.blogspot.com/ My fav there....the monday beefcake photos...mm mm good! Enjoy!

That's all for now. Until next time...

September 11...Warning! Halloween costumes are outrageous!

Holy expensive costumes, Batman! Well, Spiderman actually. My son LOVES him. Not only does he try to climb the walls, he actually "webslinged" the doctor at his last appointment. So, my hubby and I should have known that when he saw a muscle chest spidey costume at the store, he would just HAVE to have it. That he would pull out all the stops...from the big, sad puppy dog eyes, to flat out balling. What we did not expect was the $50 dollar price tag once it rang up at the register. $50 bucks for a child's costume! Needless to say, I just bought it on ebay for $24.99...brand new. Still rather pricey, but half the store bought price. Not to mention, the mail man will bring it to me, so I won't even have to get out of my pj's, and I won't have to spend a small fortune on gas, just driving into Madison to buy it.
So, phew...I should feel relief that it's over, that the blasted spidey outfit is on it's way to my home, as I sit and type. But alas, I still have my eight year old daughter to buy for.

Until next time...

September 5, 2005...Camping

Hello all. I just got back from camping with the family over Labor Day weekend. We went to the lake with four other families. The kids had an absolute blast! Running around with a dozen other children, splashing in the lake, and tubing behind the boat...how could they not have fun?

I on the other hand, need to take a nap. :) I swear, being in the sun all day, chasing after a dozen kids, while drinking mass quantities of beer will tucker you out in no time! But, it was our last hurra before fall truly takes over Wisconsin. Something I fear will be happening unfortunately soon...I mean school has already started, Halloween costume shopping is nearly completed...before you know it, we will have to break out the mittens, scarfs and jackets. (Depressing, I know...but true) So, I highly suggest you get out there into the great outdoors, and have all the late summer fun you can, while you can. :)

Until next time...

August 30, 2005...Stitches hurt!

Today's agenda...kitchen safety.  Why, you ask?  Well, apparently I haven't learned it.  On Friday, while attempting to remove an avocado pit from a halved fruit, with the tip of a steak knife, the pit split, sending the knife entirely through my palm.  In one side, out the other-between the knuckles.  Gory, I know.  But that's not the half of it.  My eight year old daughter walks in, (picture me on my back on the floor, crying like a babe, with my hand wrapped in a dish towel), and says, 'Mom, why didn't you just use a spoon?'  Exactly!  Why didn't I use a spoon?  Why didn't I practice the common sense kitchen safety rules drilled into my head by my grandmother?  Who knows?  But I do know this...stitches hurt...more than shoving a knife through your hand.  And I now think we writers a cruel, insensitive lot for making the hero sit there, get twenty stitches on his upper thigh, without even letting him grimace from the pain in front of the heroine.  Until next time...

August 25, 2005...Meag's Hot Summer Pick's

Well, since no one has an opinion on the fall T.V. line-up, I'll assume you're all readers! In that case, you should be scoping out my MEAG'S PICK'S page on my web-site. It is FULL of great titles sure to keep you enthralled this summer...or what's left of it anyway! I plan on updating it for fall, so you better check it out while you can!

Just out of curiosity, what's everybody else reading?

Wednesday, August 24, 2005

August 24, 2005...New T.V. Season

I cannot wait for the new season of televison to start. Not that I even have cable, mind you. I'm just a LOST junkie!! I'm so gonna buy the first season dvd next month. Since I work Thursday nights, and my husband can't seem to work the vcr, I've missed at least half of them!

I used to watch ALIAS all the time, but didn't really get into it last season. No matter, it looks like T.V. exec's have finally caught onto the paranormal wave this season. I can't believe all of the crazy shows coming out! Mermaids, ghost hunters, seeing/talking to dead people, aliens...you name it, it's on!

What are you dying to see?

Monday, August 22, 2005

August 22, 2005...C'est la vie!

Where or where did this month go? As I foretold on my Aug. 4th post, it will be All Hallows Eve before you know it...then turkey day...and Santa pictures, and racking up the credit cards I've only just paid down from last year. Oh well! C'est la vie! Since I am sick of thinking about when I'll find out about book #1, I thought today I'd talk about...(drum roll please) ...garage sales! Yes, garage sales. I took my two kids "garage sale'n" this weekend, and you know what? We had a blast! I spent all of eight dollars, and it made their day. Yet me being, "the best mom in the whole wide world", was short-lived however. Dad had to go and steal my thunder by taking the family to the Wisconsin Dells on Sunday. But I'm not bitter. I had fun too! However, I discovered that as one ages, the roller coaster rides go from totally awesome thrill machines, to neck aching, stomach churning monsters! At least I finally understand why they have those warning signs posted at the entrance. To quote the infamous and wise, Tigger..."Ta ta for now!"Until next time...

August 18, 2005...Gettin' Nervous

Okay, it's Thursday night, and still no word from the publisher. It's starting to look like I just might get through the weekend without having to eat massive quantities of chocolate. That's not to say a rejection isn't coming...it just looks as if I might get a longer reprieve than I thought. Still, I can't figure out what's worse? The waiting or the knowing. I guess if they decide to contract my book, it will be the waiting! Anyway, I better get home, and get to bed. I have a spin class at 6am, and if I miss it again the instructor will put me in the front of class for sure!! Yikes!Until next time...

Wednesday, August 10, 2005

August 10, 2005...Gym Woes

O.k...I really have to start going to the gym again. So far I've missed two of my spin classes this week, and I'm feelin' guilty. The sad thing is I work there! You'd think I'd manage to go for the fun stuff, huh? But alas, 'tis not so.

I can't quite figure out what it is, but there is definately something about summer that makes me lethargic. Oh well, at least I know I'm not alone. My husband's been slacking, as have a lot of our members, (who will remain anonymous...for a fee...he he he, just kidding!).

My best guess is it's this raging heat. You see, I keep the air on 24/7 at home...a hard to break Californian habit...so when I go outside I'm instantly dragging. I mean, when I can't breath, the last thing I want to do is go running for a half hour! Yet, with my fans as my witness, (that's you mom), I avow I will rise at 5 am, work out for an hour, have an energy shake, and then proceed to take lay back down and nap until my kids wake me up. :-) Now, if they only knew how to brew coffee...

Until next time...

Thursday, August 04, 2005

August 4, 2005...It's August ALREADY!?!

I can't believe it's August already! Before you know it school will start, a cold wind'll start blowin', and fat orange pumpkins will line my front walk. YIKES! Time flies much too fast when you get old...cliché but true!

Well, still no word from the editor...but I'm banking on receiving my first rejection. Harsh you say? Not when you take into consideration that J.K. Rowlings Harry Potter series got rejected 17 times before some lucky publisher decided to print it! And thank goodness they did too, I love those books! Hey...I should put those on my summer picks...something to ponder for sure. Anyhoo, I still intend on letting all of my tried and true fans out there, (hi sweetie) know as soon as I do. Feel free to cross your fingers and toes for me though! he he heUntil next time...

July 31, 2005...again!

Well, that was a quick month...then again, I only started blogging on the 20th! :-)See ya in August!!

July 31, 2005...BRAIN SEX!

Hello all! With the manuscript off to the editor, I've decided that today I'd bring up something a bit off topic. Hmm, how about husbands. Nothing negative mind you, just their complete inability to understand us. So, what's mine up to you ask? He just dropped the kids off at my work so he could go golfing for the third time in 3 days. And the sad thing is, this isn't the first time.Thankfully there is a great book out there called BRAIN SEX, written by Anne Moir, Ph.D, and David Jessel, to help me understand how his mind works. This book clearly and concisely explains the differences between men and women, saying it stems from the fact our brains are constructed differently. I thought this was a fascinating topic, and was shocked to find it an even better read. So if you want to know why us women can be on the phone, holding a baby, scolding the teenager upstairs, while stirring dinner, and thinking about the brownies we need to bake for the potluck tomorrow...when our husbands on the other hand, can't even manage to pick up eggs on the way home from work...this book's for you! I found it truly enlightening, fascinating, and compelling. And now, when my hubby drops the kids off at my work, so he can golf...I know it's simply that his single task minded brain is set on hitting a 79 today, and not on inconveniencing me in the slightest! :-)For a quick link to peruse or buy Brain Sex, click on the link below:http://www.ifge.org/books/brain_sex.htmUntil next time...

July 21, 2005...WOW!!!

Wow, that was fast!! I woke up this morning and had a request for my book in my e-mail. Needless to say, I didn't require much coffee to get my motor running. :-) I should be sending it to the publisher by Monday at the absolute latest, and like I said before, I promise to keep all of my tried and true fans, (hi honey), posted. Until next time...

July 20, 2005...I Did IT

Well, I did it. No I didn't get "the call" from a huge publishing company telling me they are going to take on my book...not yet anyway. But I did send out a few query letters to a couple of huge publishing company's...about my first book, A MAGICAL ENCOUNTER. Seeing how it's a Historical Paranormal, and according to industry insiders "paranormal's are hot right now", I figured there wasn't a better time to test the waters. Heck, the poor baby's been sitting in my computer for 9 month's now...it's about time she stretched her legs, and got some fresh air!! Anyhoo, I promise to keep my loyal fans, (hi mom), posted with news...good or ill.Until then...
